Welcome to Our Blog
This past summer at our Annual General Meeting, The Castle Society inducted a new member into our honourary category of Life Membership to long-serving member of the Board, David Hambleton. Lifetime Membership is awarded to those individuals who have contributed an exceptional amount of time and effort to the Castle Society.
David Hambleton trained at the Regent Street Polytechnic where he was awarded the Sir Bannister Fletcher Scholarship. In London he worked in the offices of Sir Louis de Soissons and Sir Albert Richardson on the restoration and reconstruction of war-damaged historic buildings, then on redevelopment projects with Trehearne Norman Preston & Partners. In 1958 Hambleton emigrated to Canada, joining the Birley & Wagg partnership in Victoria. Hambleton has chaired the Victoria Heritage Advisory Committee, the Advisory Design Panel and the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society.
After having served not only as our past President, but donating his time through numerous cycles and terms, David has retired from the Board of Directors. Not to abandon us, he remains as an active member of the Conservation Committee. In the past, his expertise in restoring heritage buildings has guided much of the restoration here over the years. We look forward to continuing the strong relationship that we have had for many years as we move into the future.
