In-Person Programs
Guided Tour & Object Analysis Activity – Suitable for students Grade 1-12
This program delves into the history of the Castle and its inhabitants. The object analysis activity encourages students to use their critical thinking skills to observe and catalogue an artifact.
Victorian for a Day – Suitable for students Grade 1-4
This program encourages students to imagine how different life was in the Victorian Era and compare the similarities and differences to today. The tour will include a 10-minute movement break where students will learn a Victorian dance. An object analysis activity will encourage students to use their critical thinking skills to observe and catalogue an artifact.
From Coalmine to Castle – Suitable for students Grade 5-8
This program explores the Castle‘s connections to coal mining and railway development in British Columbia. This program includes a photo analysis activity.
Character Tours – Suitable for students Grade 6-9
This program explores the Castle through the lens of someone who interacted with the building during its history. Through this character, students will learn about what this person’s life may have been like. This program is suited for students Grade 6-9.

FAQ
How long is the program?
In-person programs typically last for 90 minutes, which includes a 60-minute tour and a 30-minute activity.
Is there space to store our belongings? Is there space to eat lunch?
We can provide limited storage space for backpacks; however, we highly recommend leaving them on the bus. Lunch can be eaten on the Castle’s covered veranda or South Lawn outside.
Can our school bus park at the Castle?
School buses can park on Joan Crescent in front of the Castle while on school business.
Is the Castle accessible?
Unfortunately, the Castle is 87 stairs to the top with no elevator. However, accessibility tours and programs are available upon request.
Accessibility
Please remember that Craigdarroch Castle is a historic house museum and, as such, there are no ramps or elevators and it is not wheelchair accessible. Visitors are encouraged to leave personal possessions (coats, backpacks, and strollers) in their vehicle.
