This AI Ethics Statement describes how the Castle Society will use new technologies including Artificial Intelligence effectively and responsibly.

The Castle Society, its Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, acknowledge that we must
use new technologies including Artificial Intelligence effectively and with the purpose of
improving the Society’s ability to maintain its standing as Canada’s leading historic house
museum.

• Ethical AI: Involves deploying AI applications that uphold fairness, transparency,
and respect for cultural heritage and visitor privacy and align with museums’
educational and social missions.

• Responsible AI: Means using AI to enhance visitor experiences and operational
efficiency while mitigating risks, preserving the integrity of collections, and ensuring
inclusive access to cultural knowledge.

This means we will:
• Label AI-generated content to ensure it isn’t confused with human-generated
content
• Document how AI content was produced so it’s clear which elements of objects or
metadata are AI-generated
• Ensure that human oversight and review processes are in place to detect and
correct any errors, biases, or unintended consequences of our generative AI tools.
• Be clear about how and when AI is being used to collect data from visitors, and how
this data is being protected.
• Be mindful of the potential impact of automation on our workforce and commit to
supporting staff in developing the skills needed to work effectively with AI

Changes

We may update this artificial intelligence policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons.
