By John Hughes, Executive Director
In my time at the Castle, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many volunteers. Through our busiest years we’ve had as many as 45 active volunteers contributing to the organization’s mission as docents and gift shop assistants. A few also contribute their time to research projects for the curatorial department and all of them have helped us deliver our services to local and international visitors. We couldn’t offer the quality experiences without their support!
People interested in volunteering find their way to us in various ways, but at the forefront of referring agencies is the Greater Victoria Volunteer Society or Volunteer Victoria. The Castle Society has a long term relationship with the wonderfully knowledgeable staff there. They have been instrumental in helping us rebuild our volunteer program after the pandemic forced us to reduce operations to the point we couldn’t provide meaningful opportunities to volunteers, and we are so very grateful for their help.
I was recently invited to record a conversation with George Colussi at the Volunteer Victoria office and if you’re interested in learning a bit about me, the Castle Society and Volunteer Victoria, you can listen to it here.
If you aren’t familiar with Volunteer Victoria, I encourage you to take a few minutes to visit their website to learn about their mission. They have an incredibly diverse set of support tools for volunteers, people who want to volunteer, volunteer coordinators and volunteer management professionals. If you’d like to join the long list of partners and donors who contribute to the success of the organization, I’m certain they would love to hear from you.
There are a great many organizations who benefit from the expertise and support of Volunteer Victoria, and we are all much better at what we do because of their good work.
